How We Can Help

Afasic is a national charity which has over 40 years experience working with parents to achieve the best outcomes for their child . We have built a wealth of knowledge and expertise and have an enviable reputation in the world of speech and language impairments.

Parents often struggle with their child’s initial difficulties or a diagnosis and find themselves in a situation full of unfamiliarity. Language development and the potential difficulties faced by children who for one reason or another, are challenged by a communication impairment is new territory for most parents.

Coming to terms with the emotional angst and concern over your child, wondering what the future has in store…these are the times when people need to know there is an organisation that can help.

The journey with your child to successfully moving through life and achieving the best possible outcomes, whether accessing appropriate speech and language therapy, school, coping with different life stages, further education, issues surrounding post school employment and the big wide world, can be a long one.

Often this journey is arduous and takes a toll on the whole family. But sometimes all it takes are effective short interventions coupled with good support and people start to thrive.

Afasic understands each journey is unique and through advice and information built on experience, we are able to offer support. That is to achieve the best outcomes for you and your family.

Afasic Scotland’s work to promote understanding and recognition of the complex nature of speech and language impairments and associated wider communication support needs, is informed by listening to parents.

You can access help through local groups, through our helpline, and through via social media, on Facebook page and via online discussion through our Facebook group. There is also a wealth of information on the site designed to help you.
