About Us

Afasic ScotlandAfasic Scotland has its main office situated in Dundee, and works with parents, professionals, local authorities and agencies across Scotland, promoting the rights, needs and aspirations of children, young people (up to the age of 25) and those of their parents and carers, all whom have lived experiences of the daily challenges that speech and language difficulties bring.

We offer a membership package which is real value for money and gives you access to the latest updates, information, training and other and online resources.

Afasic UK operates a national helpline which shares expert knowledge of speech and language impairments and offers support and signposting. There is dedicated staff who understand the challenges and concerns parents face and can offer helpful advice. Our helpline staff include parents of children with SLI, ( specific language impairment); they know how isolated parents can feel when faced with an often times uphill struggle whilst trying to do the best for their children.

Afasic Scotland is an effective contributor to policy making and campaigns at local and national levels, responding to issues raised by parents and through partnership approaches with various agencies across Scotland, in order to empower and enable parents to advocate effectively for their children and to ensure equity, accessibility and accountability of appropriate statutory and non statutory services.

Our commitment to the participation of parents and involvement of those children and young people directly affected by communication difficulties is a priority and we have a network of parent support groups facilitated by parent volunteers in various areas of Scotland. Afasic Scotland has a unique parent led Steering Group, comprised of delegates from local community groups, which meets regularly to discuss and respond to issues arising from different local authority areas and help inform the work of the charity in Scotland.
